Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the ring-fort of the wells
Is cosúil ar fhoirmeacha 1415–6, 1544, 1551, srl., gurbh í Lios na Tiobraide, 'the ring-fort of the well', bunfhoirm an logainm agus gur rinneadh leagan iolra den cháilitheoir le himeacht aimsire.
Cf. an dá imfhálú anseo ar www.archaeology.ie agus an tobar darb ainm Tobar na Rátha, 'the well of the ring-fort' (‘Tobar na Ráithe', The Place-Names of Decies, 287) - English
the ring-fort of the wells
It seems from entries 1415–6, 1544, 1551, etc., that the original form of the placename was Lios na Tiobraide, 'the ring-fort of the well', and that the qualifier was changed into a plural form over time.
Cf. the two enclosures here on www.archaeology.ie and the well named Tobar na Rátha, 'the well of the ring-fort' (‘Tobar na Ráithe', The Place-Names of Decies, 287)
