A longer form Baile na Buirgéise, 'the town of An Bhuirgéis', and the metathesised form (An) B(h)ruigéis, are seen in the entries from 1840 and from the last local Irish speakers in the 1960s (see Dinnseanchas I, 34); cf. bbf An Bhuirgéis Nua/Burges New, An Bhuirgéis Thiar/Burges West, Buirgéis an Tí Mhóir/Burges Mansion, par. Tubbrid.
