Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of Hinibeire
Hinibeire — sloinne (< de Hynteberge na nAngla-Normannacha, a thagann ó logainm i Sasana).
Féach gur i mBéarla atá an tagairt is sine dá maireann, ‘Hynbreston’ (1550). Dhealródh sé gurbh é Fearann Hinibeire, ‘the land of Hinibeire’, an leagan Gaeilge den logainm a bhí in úsáid ar dtús, agus gur chuid de Loch Luachra, q.v., a bhí ann.
Cf. Logainmneacha na hÉireann II, 52. - English
the town of Hinibeire
Hinibeire — surname (< Anglo-Norman de Hynteberge, from a placename in England).
Note that the oldest surviving form is in English, viz. ‘Hynbreston’ (1550). It would seem that Fearann Hinibeire, ‘the land of Hinibeire’, was the Irish form originally used, and that it formed a part of Loch Luachra, q.v.
Cf. Logainmneacha na hÉireann II, 52.
