Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the new castle
Tá an logainm Gaeilge le feiscint go soiléir in iontrálacha 1618, 1714, agus 1715.
Is ionann '-ophabee' (1590) agus Ó bhFathaidh, gin. < Uí Fhathaidh, ainm an cheantair ina raibh an logainm. Is as a thagann Uíbh Fhathaidh (Thiar), ainm na barúntachta. - English
the new castle
The Irish placename can be seen clearly in entries 1618, 1714, and 1715.
The element '-ophabee' (1590) is Ó bhFathaidh, gen. < Uí Fhathaidh, the name of the area in which the placename was located. This is the source of Uíbh Fhathaidh (Thiar)/Offa (West), the name of the barony.
