Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the water of Ruán; water of (the) red ground
‘In Moymet or Kilbridge Parish, there is a very curious well called Uisce Ruadháin, which the natives understand to mean “Reddish water”, but I think means aqua Rodani or the water of St. Rodanus’, a scríobh Seán Ó Donnabháin in Litreacha na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis, Co. na Mí. Bheadh dealramh le ceachtar den dá mhíniú sin. Tá áiteanna den ainm Ruán i gCo. an Chláir agus i gCo. Thiobraid Árann, cuir i gcás, agus dealraíonn sé gur talamh rua is brí leis an bhfocal
