Ní sloinne a thagann roimh -town sa logainm Meadstown ach ainmfhocal, de réir na foirme Gaeilge a cuireadh síos in Ainmleabhar Paróiste na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis: Baile na Leunadh Ainmleabhar, scríofa le dúch (1836). ‘Meadstowne’ a fhaightear i Civil Survey an chontae, 1654–55. Is aistriúchán é léana ar ‘mead’ de réir dealraimh.
