n/a
"Pinkman: Tamhnaigh-Aoiligh = Green field of the lime Ael, modern aol, lime; aoileach, aoiligh, ‘full of’ or ‘abounding in’ lime. Lime was used as a whitener in ancient times. Hide-covered shields were often whitened with lime; so was the outer defence, surrounding the homesteads. And from the time of St. Patrick onwards lime was used in making mortar. Then, as now, it was got from burning lime-stone – cloch-aoil."
