"Pinkman: Bléan-Choilleadh = Creek of the wood. Bléan, literally the groin, is often applied to a narrow, low tongue of land, or to a creek formed by a lake or river. Compare Bléan-Gaille, the creek at Galey on the West of Lough Ree, Co. Roscommon. Four Masters, AD 1156. Furnace: It was called Furnace because iron smelting was once carried on there. Iron ore was fairly plentiful at one time around Dromod. (See Lewis, Top. Dictionary – Annaduff). "
