"Pinkman: Coill-Iomáin = Wood of the hurling. The wood beside the place, where hurling was played. There is no doubt about the first syllable of this word from the way it is pronounced by the people even now. The name is written in the Parish Books Killimaun and this represents the Irish form more correctly. A Royal Commission Report of 1821-5 has Killeman, alias Killemane, alias Killeynane. Hurling was a favourite game in Ireland from the earliest times. It was called immán, or in modern spelling iomán, meaning ‘driving’ or ‘urging’. (Compare Joyce, Social History, Vol. II, page 474)"
