"Pinkman: Gort Uí Chléirigh = O’Clery’s field. The Down Survey writes the name Gortnaclarie, and it appears often in old writings as Gortnaglery – both pointing to the Irish form Gort-na-gCléireach, field of the clergy, church property. Yet O’Donovan makes the English form of the name Gortyclery, and this is supported by local usage, which makes the name Gortaclery…. And Fiant 5439 of Elizabeth has Pardon to Olisse O’Clare of Stukie. Stukie represents the modern ‘stuck’ = a townland beside Gortyclery."
