"Pinkman: Drongán = A meeting, or a meeting place. Drong, a multitude or a company - compare the English word, throng – was often used to denote a place, where crowds assembled, or where meetings were held. It was used, too, in the sense of sept or tribe and, by extension, the place where the sept or tribe dwelt. It has two diminutive forms, both of which occur in place-names – Drongán and droingín. The latter occurs in Dringeen, near Cong in Co. Mayo. It was either a meeting place of some kind or a place where some remarkable sept or tribe resided. "
