"Pinkman: Fineasclainn = (Place of) the swift stream. Ineasclainn means, according to Cormac’s Glossary, a swift or strong stream. The word is found now only in Place-names (Joyce). In its simple form it survives in two townlands called Inisclan, in Co. Tyrone and in one in Co. Fermanagh, named Inisclin. Sometimes, as in this place in Leitrim, the letter ‘f’ is prefixed to the word. This form is found, also, in Galway, Roscommon and Sligo. Finisklin, in the Parish of Kiltoghert, lies between Annaghearly Lough and Costre Lough. A small stream between these two loughs runs through the place. "
