"Pinkman: Cluain-síthe-bán = White fairy meadow land. Cloonshee, in Co. Roscommon, Cluain-síthe (Four Masters, 1415). Perhaps the Irish form should be Cluain-síodha-bhán nó bháin. Síodh, genitive sídhe, síthe, is applied to the dwellings of the fairies; then to the hills and places where these dwellings were; and sometimes to the fairies themselves. “Subterranea habitacula et aliquando ipsi colles” (Hogan Onomasticon)* et aliquando, ut mihi videtur, parvuli ipsi.
