place of elder-trees?
Tá bunús an logainm seo éiginnte. Talamh charraigeach atá anseo, é ábhairín níos airde ná an portach taobh thuaidh agus taobh theas de. Níl aon tuairisc ar lios san Fhardal Seandálaíochta (www.archaeology.ie). Dá bharr sin, cé go bhfuil an fhianaise traslitrithe cosúil le bf Tromráth (#7190) (Cl 38), logainm a bhfuil fianaise Ghaeilge againn dó, measaimid gur fearr tromra “place of elder-trees” a mholadh anseo (féach an nóta faoi bf Tromra (LG) in Ó Crualaoich, Logainmneacha na hÉireann IV s.n. Trimmer).
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Ní léir bunús Coolnareen SO, atá léirithe cois portaigh in oirthear an bhaile fearainn.
- Luaitear Shanavolla SO < An Seanbhaile (?) “the old town” sa nóta faoi bf Bostún nó Cúil Bhaile Uí Ógáin (#27917).
