Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
river-meadow, holm of holly
Suite cois abhann. D’fhéadfaí Srath Cuillinn “river-meadow, holm of (the) steep slope” a chur san áireamh sa cháilitheoir, b’fhéidir; tá an baile fearainn seo suite ar leirg thuaidh Shliabh Bladhma. Is fíordheacair cuileann “holly” a aithint thar cuilleann “steep slope” in ainmneacha mar seo a thagraíonn d’áit a bhfuil ardú talún. Is iad sl Sliabh gCuillinn (#124034) in Ard Mhacha agus b Cill Chuillinn (#25711) i gCill Dara (cf. Dinnseanchas VI 100–101) an dá shampla is mó le rá i logainmneacha, is dócha.
Ar aon chuma, díol spéise gan aon rian de -ng sa bhéarlú ar -nn caol na Gaeilge (cf. na nótaí faoi bf An Garraí Mór (#28470), bf An Rinn (#28644)).
