Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the forest of Ó Móra
Ó Móra (< Ó Mórdha) — tiarna na dúiche seoIs cosúil gur tagairt don áit seo atá in iontráil 1549 ‘Dirrenefforress’ < Doire na Foraoise “the (oak-)wood of the forest”, atá le fáil i gcur síos ar ‘bounds of Leyse’. Tá an baile fearainn seo suite ar theorainn Laois Uí Mhóra le hUí Fhailghe lastuaidh (agus ar theorainn cheithre bharúntachta).
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
Tá an fo-bhaile Barnashrone SO (#1418504) léirithe i ndeisceart an bhaile fearainn, mar a síneann píosa caol talún amach sa phortach. D’fhéadfadh sé gur Barr na Sróine an t-ainm Gaeilge atá taobh thiar de seo agus gur ‘gob talún’ an bhrí atá le srón anseo (cf. rinn An tSrón (Ci) (#1416137), ct Srón Bhroin (Ci) (#1393947), mng Gob na Sróine Gairbhe (ME) (#1399546)).
Cf. bf Srónach (#28557) i dtuaisceart an chontae agus bf Srónchoill (#28129) in oirthear an chontae, áiteanna eile a ngobann rinn bheag chaol talún isteach i bportach.
