the (oak-)wood of Ó Sé?
Ó Sé — sloinneIs cosúil gurb ionann an áit seo agus 1549 ‘Dirrenehage … bounds of Faryn O Nowlin [Fearann Ó nDúnlaing “the land of the Uí Dhúnlaing”]’ — féach go bhfuil an baile fearainn seo suite ar theorainn bharúntachta. Is dealraitheach gur cheart ‘Dirrenehaye’ a léamh ansin. Tá áth suntasach léirithe ar theorainn theas an bhaile fearainn (Stepping Stones, Ford SO 25ʺ) ach is ar éigin gur réadú ar Doire an Átha atá anseo. Réiteodh ‘Dirrenehaye’ le Doire na hÁithe “the (oak-)wood of the kiln”, b’fhéidir, ach níl aon iarsmaí d’áith anseo (Fardal Seandálaíochta) agus ní heol dúinn aon tsampla d’áth “ford” mar fhocal baininscneach i logainmneacha (in ainneoin ‘áth … sometimes f[eminine]’, Dinneen; cf. www.dil.ie).
D’fhéadfadh sé mar sin gurb é an sloinne Ó Sé atá sa cháilitheoir, agus gur réadú é 1549 ‘Dirrene[h]a[y]e’ ar fhoirm mhalartach * Doirín Uí Shé. Cf. ‘John Shea’ sa pharóiste seo in Griffith’s Valuation agus 40 sampla eile sa chontae.
