Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the (oak-)wood of Céirín
Céirín — ainm pearsantaIs dócha gur réadú ar -ín atá le sonrú san fhianaise luath, e.g. 1570 ‘Dyrrekeryne’. Féach ‘m. Ceirine’ (Laighin) agus ‘m. Cerene’, Clann Criomhthainn (Laoighis) in Leabhar Mór na nGenealach 523.11, 519.7. Cuireadh ceithirne, gin. < ceithearn “band of soldiers; woodkern” san áireamh freisin; cf. bf Cnoc na Ceithirne (#28317).
Roinnt iarsmaí seandálaíochta san Fhardal Seandálaíochta anseo (www.archaeology.ie).
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Tá cuma thrédhearcach go leor ar an ainm Raheendonnell SO < Ráithín Dhónaill “the ring-fort of Dónall”.
- Tá an mionainm Kyletabreeheen SO le fáil ar léarscáil 1563 ‘Kiltebrenī’ (‘Kiltebrenin’, is dócha); ainm é seo ar sheanteampall agus ar reilig. Tá na fothracha seo suite ‘on the summit of a gentle N facing slope in an area of tillage and rough pasture’ (Fardal) agus ar imeall pharóiste. Foirmeacha eile ón 16ú haois is ea 1551 ‘Kiltebronyn’, 1552 ‘Kiltibreny’, 1570 ‘Kyltybrownyne’, 1577 ‘Kiltibrownyne’ (sna Fiants) agus 1567 ‘Kyltybriny’ (Inq.). Tá an cáilitheoir an-chosúil leis an logainm stairiúil 1100c 'Lasair ... i Cill Ingin Brainin i Laigis’, 'Lassair nomen septimæ filia Branin, & i Cill ingine Branin i Laigis ata’ in Féilire Aonghasa (féach FSÁG ‘Ceall Inghine Brainín (Ch. of Brainín's daughter) Unident. in Laoighis’). Cf. leis bf Cill Tí Céire (#16621).
