Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the church of the craftsmen
Díol spéise fuaimniú na heiliminte deiridh mar -seere /siːr/ chomh luath le 1655 ‘Killnesire’ (agus b’fhéidir in 1631 ‘Templekillneseere’). Ní léir an forbairt í seo ó -seare /seːr/ sa 16ú haois (1591 ‘Keylneseare’). Cf. bf Caolach (#28032).
Mionainmneacha:
Tugann Ó Corragáin an mionainm ‘Cruckawna-yoozh’ < Cnocán an Iúir “the hillock of the yew-tree”. Tabhair faoi deara fuaimniú cn- mar cr- /kr/ anseo i ndeisceart an chontae (cf. 1838 ‘Crucanure’, 1841 Knockanure SO faoi bf Cluain Dubh (#28631) i dtuaisceart an chontae).
