Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of Sionóid?
Sionóid — sloinne (< Sinnott na nAngla-Normannach)Is dócha go raibh an ceart ag Ó Donnabháin nuair a thuairimigh sé gurbh é an t-ainm/sloinne Normannach Sinnott ba cháilitheoir don logainm seo, cé nach féidir a bheith deimhnithe faoi sin in éagmais aon fhianaise a thaispeánann -s- radaiceach sa dara heilimint (m.sh. * Ballysinode).
Ba dhóigh le duine ar na foirmeacha Gaeilge 1838 ‘Baile thínóid; bíonéog [leg. híoneóg]’, a breacadh síos ó chainteoirí dhúchais de bhunadh na háite (cf. Ó Caoimh in LSO I 1 faoi par Achadh Bhó (#1412)), go raibh an chéad siolla fada, murab ionann is réaduithe Gaeilge eile ar an ainm Sinnott ar fud na tíre.
