Baile Mic An Chaim in the Annals of the Four Masters
The ruins of an old castle are situated in the Townland of Ballymackaquim East. It is said that this castle belonged to the Piers family. Ballymackaquim which is written Baile Mic An Chaim, in the Annals of the Four Masters, and signifies the Town of the Son of the Stooped Man (villa filii Curvi) is mentioned in the same Annals at AD 1577. “A war broke out between the Earl of Desmond (Garrett, the son of James, who was the son of John) and Fitzmaurice of Kerry; (Thomas, the son of Edmond, who was the son of Thomas) and the Earl took Baile Mic An Chaim from Fitzmaurice…”
