Explanatory note

the little nest
Faoin 19ú haois tuigeadh do mhuintir na háite gur foirm den fhocal feadán, ‘stream’, a bhí in ainm an pharóiste seo (féach 1840 ‘Na Feadáin … The townland is now called Fearann na bhFeadán’, Litreacha na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis I, 61/25; 1840 'Fearann an Fhiodain', Ainmleabhar); cf. an bf Fearann an Neadáin: b’ionann fuaim don ainm seo agus do Fearann an Fheadáin. - English
the little nest
By the nineteenth century the name of this parish was locally understood to contain a form of the word feadán, ‘stream’ (see 1840 ‘Na Feadáin … The townland is now called Fearann na bhFeadán’, Ordnance Survey Letters I, 61/25; 1840 'Fearann an Fhiodain', Namebook); cf. the townland name Fearann an Neadáin/Neddans (Farran), which would sound identical to Fearann an Fheadáin.
