Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
Is aistriúchán í an fhoirm Ghaeilge. Féach 'Milford' (ainm tí mhóir) ar léarscáil Larkin (1817) agus 'Milford' i ngníomhas talún ón bhliain 1791, an tagairt is luaithe dá bhfuil againn. Is cosúil gurb ainm déanach Béarla atá ann — féach 'Corn Mills' (baile fearainn An Currach Bog) léirithe ar léarscáil na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis (1838) — agus níl aon bhaint aige leis an ainm 'Liscr[iu]alli' (léirithe san áit seo ar Hiberniæ Delineatio, 1685) = ‘Liscrunvally' (Book of Survey and Distribution, 1660c) = ‘Liscrambally' (innéacs le Inrolments of the Connaught Certificates, 1653–4)
- English
The Irish form is a translation. See 'Milford' (big house) on Larkin's map (1817) and 'Milford' on a land deed of 1791, the earliest historical reference. The name seems to be of late English-language provenance — see 'Corn Mills' (townland An Currach Bog/Curraghbog) on the Ordnance Survey map (1838) — and it is unconnected with the name 'Liscr[iu]alli' (shown in this location on Hiberniæ Delineatio, 1685) = ‘Liscrunvally' (Book of Survey and Distribution, 1660c) = ‘Liscrambally' (index to Inrolments of the Connaught Certificates, 1653–4)
