Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the third of the mill

Tagraíonn trian d’aonad talún ar foroinn é (“tríú cuid”) d’aonad talún níos mó.

Tá an baile fearainn seo suite cois Finne in aice le Muileann an Droichid. Luaitear Flax Mill ar léarscáil 25 orlach na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis in aice leis an teorainn idir an dá bhaile fearainn. Cé go mbeadh muileann lín réasúnta déanach mar ghné, tá an-seans ann go raibh muileann de chineál eile ann roimhe. (JÓG)

  • English

    the third of the mill

Trian refers to a subdivision (“third part”) of a larger land unit.

This townland is situated on the banks of the River Finn beside Mullandrait/Muileann an Droichid. A Flax Mill is marked next to the border between these two townlands on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch map. Although a flax mill would be a reasonably late feature, it is likely that it was preceded by a mill of a different kind. (JÓG)
