Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the grey, streaked tail, long strip of land
Tá cruth fada, caol agus cuartha ar an mbaile fearainn seo. Is cosúil gur ag tagairt don chruth sin atá an t-ainmfhocal iorball “tail” san ainm. Tá dhá bhaile fearainn den ainm céanna i gContae Thír Eoghain agus ceann amháin i gContae Aontroma. (JÓG)
- English
the grey, streaked tail, long strip of land
This townland has a long, narrow, curved shape, and it is most likely that the noun iorball “tail” is employed as an allusion to its distinctive form. There are two townlands of the same name in County Tyrone and another in County Antrim. (JÓG)
