Brown's Castle
Litreacha SO 1841: Brown’s Castle in ruins, so called it is said, from a man of the name Brown, a robber, who lived in it, is situated in the Townland of Clashmeelcan in this Parish. The ruins stand on the extreme point of a cliff over the River Shannon. The trench from the main land, and as an additional defence of the place, two stone walls extended from the Castle, one Eastward and the other Westward, as far as the extremities of the neck of the land in these directions, which are washed by the waters of the Shannon on bith sides. Part of the East wall still remains. The trench ran outside these walls and the wall of the Castle on the south side.
