Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
weir
'Salmon weir' léirithe in Abhainn na Bandan ar bhruach thuaidh an bhaile fearainn seo. Tá an bhrí 'weir' le gach focal sa logainm seo: is cosúil gurbh é só túseilimint an bhunainm agus gur cuireadh an focal cora, atá i bhfad níos coitianta, roimhe seo níos déanaí. Féach A Dictionary of the Irish Language/www.dil.ie s.v. sod (> sódh > só) agus Diarmuid Ó Murchadha, 'Sódh i Logainmneacha' in Éigse XXVIII, lth. 129-134 (1994-1995) - English
weir
'Salmon weir' shown on the Bandon River at the northern shore of this townland. Both words in this placename mean 'weir': it is likely that the word cora was prefixed to an original name which had the first element só. See A Dictionary of the Irish Language/www.dil.ie s.v. sod (> sódh > só) and Diarmuid Ó Murchadha, 'Sódh i Logainmneacha' in Éigse XXVIII, p. 129-134 (1994-1995)
