Tá an fhianaise an-ghann agus an-dhéanach ach mar a sheasann sé tá an logainm seo soiléir go leor. Is ait le rá go dtuairimíonn Ó Donnabháin ‘na gcroidhe … of the cattle’, et var., san Ainmleabhar i mbeagnach gach logainm ar fud na tíre ina dtagann na graí “of the horses” i gceist. De réir gach dealraimh is anseo a bhí 1564 ‘Colbryde’, et var. (féach nóta faoi bf Coill an Iúir (#28477), ach ní cosúil go bhfuil baint ag an dá ainm le chéile.
